Pontoon Boat & Deck Boat Forum

Popped out to the marina last Saturday and noticed there's a new boat a few slips down.
Guy had rigged up rope and pulleys so he can apparently just lift the cover & pull out and then drop it back down upon returning.
He's using bungee cords to hold the perimeter of the cover to the dock.

Hope to catch him one day and see how well it works.
Anyone else seen or done this?

Some people are just smarter than others. Looks good.

I wonder if that'd work on our wide and deep lake with 50+ mph winds a few times per year.

also a driving rain will puddle the cover.

Ya gotta give the guy a lot of credit for ingenuity. I have seen what is basically a square lift-off canvas setup that raises and lowers, but it doesn't protect the boat from critters crawling inside. Then, down here, there are 2 companies selling custom made covers that operate much like a shower curtain. They hang from a central beam and the cover has a zipper at the back and some kind of stretchy cord along the bottom. Basically you unzip the cover and retract it towards the bow and reverse the process when recovering.

Hell, when I first got my boat I kept it with a proper cover for the first year. One day I went to take her out and I unsnapped the cover to find a mother Raccoon and her kittens (or what ever you call a baby Raccoon). I swear to god she must have unsnapped the top, opened the door and closed everything up behind her because neither me or the marina guys could figure out how she got in there with her whole family.

OldePharte, I checked into those covers. They said they can do pontoon boats (my neighbor's 29' Regal open bow is covered with one-it fits like a glove). They quoted a price of $135/foot, plus a $500 install charge. I have other uses for my money.
