Shark hid

#1 Post by Gonefishing » Sun Jan 06, 2013 11:30 am

Just picked up the new toon and have it down having the pontoons painted below water line. I want to protect the toons above the water line also. Thinking about using shark hid. Process would be 1st polish them and then use the protector on them. Or is there more I need to do?

Sharkhide is for bare metal only. You would also need to remove it with lacquer cleaner if you were ever to paint any surface with it applied.

The problem with Sharkhide is getting all the black oxide off--after polishing with lacquer cleaner. The oxide gets into the nooks and crannies (and welds) and it smudges when Sharkhide is applied.

I polished my toons but didn't have the time or energy (probably energy) to get the boat in shape to apply Sharkhide. I just put it back in the boathouse polished.

In applying Skarkhide On a brand new boat I'm thinking all you'll need to do is make sure all the surfaces are clean and make sure the manufacture didn't apply any sealant. If it's ok on the factory sealant you then simply apply a couple of coats of Sharkhide and you'd be good to go. Bamaman is right about the frustration if polishing is required but unless your anal retentive most won't bother polishing a new boat.
