2001 Mercury 90, is it a good one or not

While looking for engines by phone and interned we were offered an 2001 90 Mercury by a friend of my brother, 3000 rigged .

Then last night I seen a long shaft E-Tec 65 horse with tiller for 4000, I didn't know how hard it would be to convert to remote steering, then I have to pay to get it rigged, he did have a manual jack plate to sell with it.

Help guys it's hard to work and hunt answers at the same time.

90 Merc is the way to go Herb. Check the compression first but sounds reasonable.

Herb, as long as the motor is in good working order, I'd go for the 90 Merc...

Herb, That is the motor I have and I have had no problems with it at all. Still I had to change the water pump but carbs and other stuff are still original.

I just got back from seeing it and I we will get it, he just went through it and he has a nice little shop he out grew and getting ready to move to a bigger building behind him that just opened up, he went through it,said compression was right on the numbers and he was using it on one of his boat but wants to use a 115.

Comes with top mount controls, I said that would work but piss Craig off :rofl :rofl :rofl

Sounds like a good one but to heavy for my 20 footer, my back deck would be underwater.

What size props are you guys using
