FRP for fence panels?

#1 Post by mgarvie » Tue Mar 05, 2013 12:26 pm

How would FRP panels hold up for fence panels? I know this topic was posted awhile back but I haven't been able to find an update for it. My panels have been beaten to death by Asain carp and FRP panels seem like they would hold up to a beating. I put the stuff up in my shower eight years ago and it gets more water on it than it would on my boat, but how would it hold up to sunlight?

I think it would hold up ok, from what I read, it might fade a little from the sun, but you can always treat it with 303 protectorant as needed.
I was considering frp for underskin, but i found something else.

Yep, I brave the carp on the Illinois river south of Peoria.

Any painters here know anything about painting FRP panels? Local box stores have only white and a shop I checked today wants a $500 minimum to order the color I want. For $500 I could repanel a whole fleet of boats.

I work for Home Depot contractor services.. I have a vendor who has a decent selection of colors. If you have one near you go to contractor services area and ask. IM me and I will call your local store for you they should be able to buy 1 or 100 for you.. If you are serious about alternate colors and installing this product... :biggrin2

I tried Lowes and Menards. I'll head to Home Depot on my day off. Thanks.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but I'm thinking FRP board would have a tendency to crack myself. From the pictures of the carp I've seen they can get some size to them. A fish of some size that struck in the middle of a unsupported FRB panel fence would likely crack the panel. In real application FRP panels relay on a sub strait like drywall or osb for strength and impact resistance. It was never intended to be utilized as a free standing construction component by itself.

For your use it would be nice to find something more impact resistant like this PolyMax Board but unfortunately this company only carries white but a web search may provide other color options. Anyway I'm wishing you luck with your carp deflector :thumbsup

Home Depot was a bust as a source. Guess I'll be painting or just have a whithe boat.

The FRP panels they have at the store here seem pretty flexable and strong. But then I have no idea what will happen after they've been outside in the sun for awhile.

"STOP" to use FRP you must get the industrial grade you cant use the stuff from Home Depot and such it dont have enoph PVC in it and will crack, I found out the hard way.
I just got my panels finished last weekend and they look "great" BUT I CANT GET MY PICTURES TO LOAD I have my kid coming over to help with it.
YES you can paint it. It is fiberglass with PVC added to mack it more supple
It wights about twice that of aluminum, OK so I added 30 pounds to the boat, NO MORE DENTS,
I get my pictures uploaded and i can show ya.
for now FRP " love me long time"
