You mean you need a card to have GPS? I just turn mine on and find my lake

Well my nice long reply is lost, so here's the condensed version:
I have Navionics Gold with a HB 587ciHD
WARNING: Set unit to DEFAULT before atempting installation (if not, unit can only be reset at factory).
If 2GB or less card is specified - do not use card OVER 2GB - or formatting is different and will not work.
Throw "EASY 3 STEP " installation instruction saway - search on web for detailed instructions that do work - you're not the first installer.
DURING USE: contour lined maps (from the chip) will appear by scrolling past default maps - no biggie once you know.
I got it for the CONTOUR lines of unfamiliar lakes - not the shoreline - I can see that myself.
If your lake is down 30 feet and you don't want to go shallower than 10 feet - set map shading at 40 feet - it's not rocket science (the map only knows normal lake levels). Too many complaints about this on forums - why??
Hope this helped - and if it doesn't print - you'll never see it, 'cause I'm not retyping it again - LOL

I have the Navionics chip in my Lowrance 522C. It really adds great detail for holes, drop offs, etc. when I'm chasing white bass.

I'm using a Humminbird 787c2i with the Navionics HotMaps Premium South. It's an older card that was current in 2007 when we got the boat. See the differences for my lake here...

I would not boat without one of these chips in my GPS.

My "stock" inland lake maps show only the shoreline - no depth contours - I can see the shoreline by myself. The 'chip' makes it look like Drago's link - more like an offshore chartplotter. MUCH more useful for me, so I don't run aground while on an unfamiliar lake. I REALLY like the chip, since many of the lakes around here are NOT constant level - one time you make it, the next time you can't.

I remember when we were kids we'd stop and dip an oar into the water to check the depth! Can't feel bottom - good to go (FAST). Then depth finders became mainstream - so at least you knew the depth you JUST PASSED OVER. LOL They were great! Times have changed. I'll always have an inland lake depth contour chartplotter (GPS) map.
BTW Drago - maybe we can hook up sometime this summer on Lake Conroe. Of course, you'll have to give me twice the time to get anywhere! LOL PM me if interested (if this site allows that).

Check with Navionics website. Gold, Platinum, Premium, Fishing Hot Spots all have good detail. Certain lakes only have certain cards available. One you find the right card, check ur GPS documentation and make sure it is compatable.
Contour lines RULE!
