Does anyone know who makes this oil for Walmart? I believe Quaker State makes their automotive oils. Years ago I was talking with a guy that owned a skiboat/jet ski rental in Page, AZ (Lake Powell). He told me that is was made by Mercury Marine (quicksilver) back then and that is all he used in his rentals. Well that is all I have always used every since that conversation (back when is was under $5.26 a gallon). I put over 1100 hundred hours (14 years) on my Yamaha Pro-V 200 without every having a single problem. I have also ran this oil for the last four years in two different 50 HP motors on two different pontoons. I am in the process of selling one of those toons and the buyer asked what I used. When I told him, he seamed a little concerned about me running cheap oil in it. I told that I had heard it is the same oil that is sold by Mercury but could not be certain. Can anyone confirm who makes it?

That is a very good question I have often wondered about that my self. A friend of mine used to run the merc oil exclusively and one day we poured a sample of each into a glass and look at it very closely and couldn't see any differences at all the color and feel and even the smell is or was the same, it was some years ago. I have been using the tech 3 oil for 15 plus years with no issues.

I have always guessed the oil is made by one of the bigger company's and sold to walmart and merc.

I found this old thread and some of the links are dead, but it dose look like its made by Pennzoil-Quaker by their specialty oils division.

I've been running WallyWorld outboard motor oil in my Yamaha 115 2 stroke for 27 years without incident. I also ran it in my Sea Doo for 20 years, and the engine is clean as a pin inside.

I've seen many people online say they've been satisfied with this product over the years. Cannot remember anyone saying they had an engine failure running it.

If I was running a new direct injected outboard, I'd probably be using the OEM oil as long as it was in warranty. Then, I'd be changing over to something a little less expensive--Pennzoil or Amsoil.

If you get looking around, there really are just a few major processors of motor oil in North America--maybe three refineries. And none of the engine manufacturers do anything but spec out oils and have it put in a container with their names on it. They just broker the stuff through their franchised dealerships.

My 2 cents worth: If the engine maker calls for, say TCW3 and the label on the container says "meets API specification for TCW3, then the oil manufacturer guarantees their oil meets the minimum spec the engine maker requires. Of course, if you have an engine failure you're going to have to prove it was the oil that caused the problem.
I seem to remember several threads on this issue a couple of years ago as it related to Yamalube, Quicksilver, etc. I'm like one of the others who uses the oil specced by the engine maker until the warranty is over and then go looking for a cheaper product that still conforms to the spec, as in TCW3.

I've only used Yamalube in my 90 2 stroke. I buy it in bulk at the dealer. Usually 2 gals will get me thru the summer.

I also have been using the tech tc-w3 in both my jet skis and outboards for close to 15 years with no problems what so ever.
