I live in eastern Oklahoma have slip boat lift and toon on Tenkiller lake (20m drive to marina). All paid for just rent slip. Took new job that moves family to Oklahoma panhandle (not many lakes) 7 hr drive from new town to marina. I cant make myself give up boat and slip at tenkiller? With job I would be able to get to the lake about 5-6 durruing the summer for about 3-4 days depending on weekends. Wife says sell boat and wait till we move closer to a lake. Eufualla would be about 6 1/2 hrs and keystone lake would be 5 1/2 hrs away. Is that to far to make it work?

Keep the toon -- check out Canton Lake (it's another Corps lake). Also check out Fort Cobb Lake in western Oklahoma.

I think having to travel more than 5 hours to get to the boat would make it a real PITA -- especially if you forget something at home for the boat (like the key).

There might also be some close lakes in the panhandle of Texas as well.

Congrats on the new job -- sorry for the tough decision about what to do with the new toon.

Find a way to keep your toon-
Even having to go through some trouble to get it to a smaller lake, even if you have to trailer it.
But keep your toon.

Congratulations on the new job!!!!!

I grew up in northwest Oklahoma and spent many summers of my youth on Canton Lake and The Great Salt Plains Lake. The last I heard Canton is all but dried up and Salt Plains has been struggling for years. Kaw Lake near Ponca City is probably the most viable option.

From their website:
Kaw Lake has approximately 17,500 acres and 168 miles of shoreline. More than 20,000 additional acres of Corps owned land surrounds the lake.
Kaw Lake is about equi-distant from Wichita, Oklahoma City and Tulsa with about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive from each.
It shows they have two marinas.

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

My condo at Lake of the Ozarks is 6 hours from our home in Iowa. As of now, I wouldn't give it up. I love being away from the hussle and bustle of work and sometimes, even family! I don't get down every weekend. But when I do get down, its a vacation in the making! But if your planning on every weekend getaways and being back to work on Monday morning, thats tough. Selling the lift and buying a trailer is probably not a bad idea. You can find trailers easily and cheap on Craigslist. I trailer mine down and back every time we go down, because we boat on both LotO and the Mississippi River. I actually don't mind it, been doing it for over 20 years.
Whatever decision you make, let us know and congrats on the new job!

Keep the toon at least for now. If you later decide it is to much then sell or store.

Is there anyone on Tenkiller you know and trust to keep an eye on boat to check on problems before you hit the road?

My friend, you said it yourself... you can't make yourself give up the boat...... there you have it... you're obviously struggling with the idea of giving her up, so if I were you I would keep the boat... at least for now and see how things shake out over the next summer as far as how often you'll be able to use the boat.... Good luck with the new job!

I would keep it too, I couldn't use mine for years and even though I was offered good money for it a few times, I said no as I knew I would be able to rebuild it and use it again, and this January my brother and I had it scheduled to start the rebuild, then I was really lucky to get a free makeover from Pontoon Stuff the very week we were going to start taking it apart.

I would have regretted selling it and I glad I didn't because I loved the Grumman from the day I got it and will keep for a long time and get the family back out on it again when it is completed by the end of April God willing and the lakes stay high.

Again, Thanks for all the advice. After talking with wife and the guy at marina (who I trust) I am going to keep boat at marina and see how it goes. Knowing this summer may be a little hard starting new job and all (start June 1).
New job is a step up, and after a couple years may lead us back in eastern oklahoma or At least closer to the big lakes.
I hope all have a Great Easter Sunday!!!

There's also John Martin, in Colorado? About 208 miles from Guymon, OK.
