Throttle lever on my 08 ST is rather difficult to operate in both directions. Right now its cold and I know that contributes to the issue but even when its warm, I would like it to move a little more easily.

Anything I can do to remedy this.

Lube the ends is about it , or replace it. Look for any bends that will bind them up.

Unhook the motor end of the cable and see if it is the cable binding or your motor shift.

Some of the throttles have a friction adjustment on them, look for a thumbscrew on the throttle housing. If there is one, try to loosen it up alittle. If not, has to be the cable or linkage at the motor.

Was it once free? Or has it always been this way?
Another one that people miss at times is to wire tie something to them or wire tie your control cables too close to the controller. They need a little room to move.

Its been this way since I have owned it. I will find a way to pop that cover off and look for a friction adjustment.

Friction adjustment is usually external to your controller. Sometimes just a little slotted screw head, sometimes a knob of some type. Shouldn't have to break into it.

Agreed with margaritaman to try taking the motor end off. That should tell you alot.

You've got three potential areas to explore:

1. The throttle assembly

2. The cable

3. The linkage at the motor

On my derelilct 1988 Party Hut (that was new to me in 2010) the previous owner reported that "reverse gear" was toast and that it needed a new lower end unit for $$. A *mechanic* at the marina where it was marooned told me it needed a new motor for $$$$. All it needed was some lubrication and adjustment in the cable since it had stretched over the years.

It very well could be that all of them need attention - but it sure does sound like an overly tightened friction "set" screw. In that case 1/4 counter clockwise turn with a screwdriver could make you happy.
