My radio has an MP3 jack on the helm or you just open the door to the under-helm storage area and the radio is mounted just above the door.

What do you mean "get to the radio"? I have a 2012 myself. I use the USB connection all of the time. I put all of my mp3's on one and have many hours of music. The Ipod port is pretty cool. I have not used it (no ipod) but the clarion will control your ipod directly. Only problem I have is when I am listening to the radio I have to pull the antenna wire out so it picks up a clear signal. The boat does not have a head unit like a car. There is a black box mounted inside of the helm.
