I know most of you guys have the large capacity fuel tanks. I use the small 6 gal ones, I thought I would toss this out there. Last year some crack head stole my tanks and due to the new EPA standard the amount of replacements were limited. I got 2 of the Moeller ones and their rated at 6 1/2 gallon but I could just barley get 5 gallons in them. So I had to make some mods. I think this will cure it.

FYI: The bump in the bottom of the tank is intended to give a small "reserve." Run out of gas, and you lift up one end of the tank to put a little gas in the otherside where the siphon is located. I also have two 12 gallon portable plastic gas tanks from my old pontoon boat.

I use four Moeller 5 gallon Jerry Cans, and save $20+ by hauling the cans down to my boathouse vs. buying gas at marinas.

My problem is getting fast refueling since there is no longer any vent system. UTube shows where you can install metal air valve stem in a plastic tank (1/2" drilled hole), remove the stem and take the cap off. Gas will come out of the hose much, much faster.

If that's not submersible rated hose (at first blush it doesn't look like it due to the lack of markings) it will degrade and turn into jelly rapidly... and get sucked into your carbs/fuel injection system.

You also need to take in account expansion during a hot day. Air compresses. Liquids don't.

it is a vented tank so thats not a problem, but the hose is a standard fuel line though. I installed a in line filter and will be watching that very closely just for that.

It will become porous and dissolve rapidly. Submersible line is coated on the outside to resist fuel as well. It's about $20.00 a FOOT.

Thanks for that link Ron, I was just going to ask if you knew where I could find some. The price is not a problem. I added a clear in line filter just to keep a eye on for that reason, but I will dig into finding the right line. it may not make any difference at all but I run real gas. But I planned on inspecting the in tank lines for awhile. I have the original pick up tubes I can stick back on at any time on the boat.

I dug a good bit deeper into it and PVC and nylon are the 2 most common in tank fuel lines and the hose I got is a single layer braided low pressure PVC, so I think it should be fine, but time will tell.

The hose will deteriate over time in the fuel.. It will become soft and will separate from the lining on the inside of it. Cut a peice of it off and let it set a week in fuel to test it.

It very well may, but their is no inner liner its all PVC and so far after 3 weeks no sign of any thing wrong.
