I'm Screwed!!

#1 Post by evinrude2stroke » Wed May 08, 2013 7:26 pm

So, This past Saturday I went down to the Marina and set up a date (5/22) for them to come get my Toon and put it in the water. I planned on getting it cleaned up over the next couple of weekends. My wife had a surgery about a week and half ago (Ovary & Polyp removed). On Monday I took her to her post-op and all was great. :thumbsup Since I took the day off it seemed like a good idea to take the lawn tractor in for servicing....This is where things went bad :x ...... as I'm rolling it up the ramps into my pickup it gets stuck, :censored no big deal, right? I just get behind it and push it up. As I'm pushing and im just about into the truck...POP!!! My left ankle instantly goes numb and I fall to the ground. My foot is basically flopping around then the pain sets in. Holy S**t!! Anyway, I tore my Achilles Tendon. :x :x
SO, I have surgery set up for next week. Oh did I forget to mention, my wife literally wants to kill me :paranoid. Between recovery & rehab with a boot I'm looking at 8 weeks. Hopefully I can get on the boat by August. I'm wondering if it is even worth putting it in now? :donno What do you guys thing I should do? Has anyone every gone through something like this?

Had a great friend that tore his achieles last year, and it took about 6 months to get back to normal. He is 26, and they said he recovered quickly. In Jan my brother rolled his ankle playing b ball, and tore every ligament and tendon in his ankle, but didn't break it. He is just now getting back to normal. Not to burst your bubble, or rain on your parade, but achieles injuries take a long while to heal. May not be spending much time on the boat for you this year, then again when you do get out, it will feel great. Also, just because you can't walk normal doesn't mean you can't drive or ride in a boat. :prayer

And you know that aqua therapy is great.

Chin up. Things will work out for you and your family.

When I broke both my legs falling off a ladder, I was in a wheel chair for 7 weeks and walking on my hands. Even with one ankle held together by plates and screws on both sides, I don't even limp--at least not too bad. And life still goes on.

Sorry to hear about your mishap, but you said it, life goes on.... I wouldn't give up on the boating season just yet....you're going to have to play it by ear... I fell down the stairs one morning here at the house and broke my right leg in 3 places... ended up having surgery where they put in a plate and 8 screws.... cast and a boot for several months after that... and even when the boot came off, I still had a hell of a limp for about 4 months..... to this day ( and that was 5 or 6 years ago ) when I stand up my ankle feels very stiff.. takes a few steps before the "stride" is normal.... but I manage... and you'll be fine... don't worry about the boat... just take care of yourself... everything else will fall into place.... good luck with your recovery..

Roland: What's nice about a pontoon boat is that some models have gates wide enough to roll a wheel chair on them.

All you need is a wide gang plank to roll on to the boat.

You can tell I'm into this boat for the long run. Now, if I can just engineer an incline to take me from my house 27 steps down to the boathouse.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the words of support. Wow, I don't know how you guys got though those ordeals. That must have been hell for you guys. I guess I'm just pissed because boating is my favorite hobby & my son really looks forward to it. I'll figure out a way to get on it. :nana :nana

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. It must be rough, with your wife recently post-op, now you are injured... wow.
