90 hp 2 stroke Mercury Impeller

#1 Post by GXPWeasel » Wed May 15, 2013 9:25 am

Hey guys, need some help.
I tried searching for this, but after looking over 30 minutes at old posts, I couldn't actually find exactly what I'm needing. I'm looking for the impeller kit part number, for a 2004 Mercury 90hp, 2 stroke motor. I called the one and only local boat shop, and he said he has them, but didn't give me a part number. I think they ran like $35 or something close, but he said that he doesn't keep the kits, only the Impeller and gaskets separately. I'm wanting the part number so that I can call some other places around town, to see if they have them, instead of me driving 20 minutes to buy separate parts, that hopefully work.

Thanks in advance.

You don't necessarily need the gasket if you're careful with the old one.

He's just pricing you the impeller.

Drain your lower unit lube and replace the fluid.

Drop the lower unit and look at the impeller. Then, go get whatever parts you happen to need.

Don't forget to mark your trim tab angle before you remove it out so it doesn't screw up your steering. And I assume there's one bolt under the trim tab to remove before the lower unit can be dropped.

If i were you i'd get the new impeller, the 2 gaskets that seal the wear plate, and the wear plate. I just bought my impeller kit online with everything (impeller, gaskets, keyway, wear plate) for around $30.

Thank you guys.
After a little looking on iBoats, I think Curtis gave me the correct part numbers I need.

Bamaman...
Thanks for the hint regarding a hiden bolt below the trim tab. I'm not positive that it's set correctly anyways, but I'll mark it before removing.

Another trick I'd heard about is putting the boat in forward gear, so that lining the drive shaft back up is easier, as you can spin the prop to align the splines.

thanks guys. :thumbsup

I'm glad mine has been done already on the newer engine, won't have to worry about it for a while and I added the water pressure gauge so I can see low pressure before it goes bad

I might have to add a water pressure guage sometime in the future. Right now, I'm more concerned with getting the boat on the water again.
