Sitting this one out

#1 Post by trktrd » Mon May 27, 2013 7:25 am

This Memorial Day weekend I'll be staying on land. Too much craziness on the water on holidays for this old geezer.I'll be happy enough with a hot grill and a cold beer in the comfort of my own back yard.

Know what you mean! I watch the lake goings-on if front of our place and am amazed there aren't pile-ups!!
Sun, wind, a little alcohol and inexperience can make a fairly potent recipe for disaster.
Most of the weekenders will head home mid-afternoon and the Admiral and I will go for a ride.

I'm working, I'll rather wait, bad enough just driving around with the nuts on the road, even on a small frontage road yesterday I was doing 60 in a 50 zone and a Chevy just had to get by me to get to the end of the mile long road ahead of me, WTF, I had enough an let the diesel run, I don't know why he started backing up, but he wouldn't look at me when he finely got to the light :rofl

Slow down people, it's only a three day weekend, just don't slow down in front of me, after you just passed me :censored

The wife is working today (L&D nurse) so I will spend the day getting stuff ready to go camping tomorrow.
We are going to Lake Whitney for a couple of days, I figure most folks will gone by today.
Its a beautiful lake just an hour and a half from me but I usually go for big catfish and that lake is not known for them.
It should be pic worthy though, I hope to have some for y'all by this weekend.
I have to start back to work Friday.

We went out this afternoon for a couple hours. Was a little on the windy side. I let the wife drive the boat for the first time. She has been around boats, raced jet skis and knows the rules of the water but just never drove a boat. She did great. We trolled around in the cove where the boat ramp is and watched the idiots. When she went to back the trailer in, she had to wait on a car pulling a jet ski out. The just pulled straight up in front of the ramp and stopped and started packing up instead of pulling over to the post staging area. The wife got tired of waiting and started rolling back like they weren't there. They decided to move pretty quick when they saw a 24' trailer and truck headed for them without stopping. I just laughed and gave her a pat on the back.

Gale warning here all weekend, so I worked on the honey do list. Also getting the Starcraft ready to strip down to the bare metal, repaint and build stern seats...making it a comfortable to hold me over until my next 'toon.

stayed at the slip and enjoyed a couple beers while watching the newbies ground their boats on a shallow point. not sure why folks don't pay attention to the buoys indicating danger and shallow. heck, you can see the bottom over there.

I've noticed over the last couple years the lake seems much quieter on holiday weekends. I think folks got tired of how nuts it used to get.

In my area, it seems boating in general has slacked off. I think the economy has hit the boating world hard around here. Holiday weekends haven't been bad at all for the past 2-3 years, compared to over 5 years ago.

I didn't end up making it out this holiday weekend either. We were supposed to go Saturday to a new lake but my friend(who has a pontoon as well) thought it would've been too cold for his kids in the morning. Me and my wife are planning a trip tomorrow after work. A little dinner and a few cold drinks after work at the lake. It should be nice a quiet
