Motor Size ? About to rebuild need HELP, new at this !

#1 Post by rustyark » Thu May 30, 2013 2:45 pm

:?: Recently purchased a boat with two logs-20" diameter - 26 ft long. I plan to rebuild and add motor. The deck is clean with rails only.
Boat is old but logs are in good shape. Will use as family boat . What size motor can I or should I use. I am new at this. I have welding and
construction skills, but I know very little about pontoon boats. Any Ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

how fast do you want to go? there are a lot of options, 20" logs were not built for speed but there is a guy on here with what i think were 20" logs and added a larger center tube and I think he was going over 30mph with a 115hp. check the waterglide website, there are a bunch of people who post their before and after speeds, they give the make model, size, tube size etc. should give you an idea of how fast yours will go with different motor sizes.

It just depends on what its rated for the older boats had a 70 hp rating, but it depends on the brand of boat.
If it aint broke your not having enough fun
