Need help

Hey guys, I need a little help. My boat seemed to have dropped a couple of miles per hour in top speed over the last 2 years. This is apples to apples similar loads and clean toons. I seem to be down about 150 to 200 max rpms over previous years. Does the throttle cable stretch over time and need adjusting? If so, does anyone know how to adjust the throttle cable on a yamaha f150? The motor seems to be running great and boat seems fine just missing that 2 mph and wanting it back

I would pop the cowling and see if the linkage has full travel, i bet its stopping a bit short due to wear.

Have the passengers gained weight in the last two years?

Ahh, now thats just mean!
Really now, have you changed water seperator and fuel filter? Plugs? Prop look good? Have you ran some Sea Foam through it to clean the fuel system and top of the pistons and cylinders. There are so many things to look at for 200 RPM. I don't think its a throttle cable problem, but you can sure look at it. Pull the cowl and advance the throttle all the way and check to see if the butterflies are opening all the way. Easy to check. Pull a plug, should be a nice clean tan color. If it looks carboned up, the cylinder is also carboned up, run a can of Sea Foam through it, then replace the plugs.
Just some simple thoughts that may help you out....
Let us know what helps so we can keep on helping others!

I lost exactly 200 rpm's off the top when I was forced off of "Real Gas" because it was no longer available to Gas tainted with corn squeezing. I hate the stuff but it seems I no longer have a choice here anyway....

Bamby, just in case you don't know about this site... take a look at
www.pure-gas.org It lists all of the "known" non ethanol stations in each city in every state... and yeah, they're getting to be fewer and fewer each month...

No help there Roland... The few listings are a
long long way from my normal corridors of travel....

Roland,
Thanks for the tip on the gas stations. I did not know about this list, there are 5 stations listed close by me. I think my new motor (Yamaha 250 SHO) requires at least mid grade fuel. Not sure yet on that. The motor should be arriving in any day to put on the my new boat.

johnboy, glad the list helped... yeah, avoid ethanol if at all possible.... I didn't know about that web site the first year or two I had my boat so I ran E-10 fuel ( with an ethanol treatment added in ) and didn't have any problems, but as soon as I found the pure gas site, I fill her up with non ethanol fuel.... yeah, I have to drive about 30 miles round trip to go to that station, but a tank of gas will last me a month or better unless we ride the toon over into texas.. even at that, it's worth it to me to make 3 or 4 trips a summer to the e free station to avoid ethanol..... not crazy about the brand, it's citgo, but at least it's pure gas.
