Anyways, I finally had some nice weather up here and took my 84 Evinrude 2 stroke out for some fun in the sun.
I have a 6 gallon gas tank, we were out for about 2 hours and it ate up 3 gallons of gas. A fellow toon owner thought that sounded like a lot to go through.
I thought "it could be worse, I could have a cruiser that would blow through 3 gallons just backing out of a slip"
Anyways, does 3 gallons for 2 hours seem like a lot? I did cover a lot of territory using it. We never stopped. I had a few No Wake areas as well as space to open her up.

Sounds pretty normal to me. I have the same set up with a 2006 Evinrude and I will go through half the tank if i'm doing a lot of cruising around. Just make sure you don't smell any gas back by the motor.

ok as long as it sounds right. My friend thought my boat would sip gas......not the gas.

Evinrude---I thought I was leaking gas somewhere but no, no smell of gas. That's why I ask, im told it should sip but it seems to be a guzzler.

My Yamaha F150 goes through about 4-5 gallons per hour at regular cruise speeds.

At least I don't have to buy any outboard motor oil.

I had a older Johnson 85 that would suck down 4 GPH at WOT

IMO 3 gallons in 2 hours isn't too bad at all. Those older 2 smokes usually are thirsty. I had an old Merc 115 tower of power on my first toon it burned up 3-4 gallons an hour easily if I was running it kinda hard.

Fuel usage will vary greatly depending upon how fast the engine is run. For example my Yamaha F150 ranges from about 1 gph to 16 gph between 1000 rpm's and 5700 rpm's, respectively, according to the Yamaha Performance Bulletins. The way we use the boat it uses about 2 to 4 gph.

From my calculation on what you said, it seems like your 'rude consumed about 1.5 gallons per hour. You didn't say how hard you were running the boat, but I don't think that sounds bad at all.
Most boat tests today talk about "best cruise" speed that gives the best fuel consumption at a particular speed. Every boat is different due to hull design and engine size.
Another factor is load; how many people were on the boat along with gear.

There were just 2 of us on there, me at the helm and mom upfront so the weight was distributed. No cooler. But had your required gear....vests, fenders, anchor etc.
I had her at full throttle when I could, to let her open up and run. Had a lot of No Wake time so it was near idle.
I did notice as the afternoon went on, she would get louder. I thought there was a big boat behind me but it was only me. She didn't smoke, or leave oil/gas in the water. She use to be a fishermans boat so don't know if he ever opened her up and let her roll.
