Can you build a stakeout pole for a pontoon

I know lots of people who fish from a kayak use stakeout poles in shallow water rather than an anchor. They use either pvc pipe, golf club shanks, gardening stakes etc. One thing they do is have a "trolley" system which is a small rope with a ring in it on a trolley system. That way it gives you alternatives where you place it on the side.

Here is a photo of a kayak with that set up. The line has a pulley on each end, attached to the kayak

I have a 21 foot Sunchaser. Anyone know how I could make a usable, inexpensive stake out pole.

Thanks
Buster

I have two 10 ft conduit pipes that I use as shallow anchors/ push off pole.
I use a hard rubber mallet to put them into the mud.
I just zip tie them between the rail and the back of my couch/sofa thingy.
Just re zip tie them when I'm done.
This works for me.

soundds good. I suppose you could drill a couple of holes to place a rod through to help pull iti up.

Pretty good idea for someone from Texas. Thanks :biggrin2

In a related way I've been wondering why boat poles have non-standard fittings on them instead of your typical broom handle acme thread. Such a pole could be used as a stakeout pole with a pointy tip, a hook tip for grabbing a pier, a landing net, etc. Less clutter and less cost.

Fiberglass 3/4" diameter pole; 8'-10' length
PVC 3/4" T for the handle on top; nut and bolt the T to the pole
8' paracord attached to pole. Drill hole thru pole, feed line thru hole & knot it off
Attach snap shackle to other end of line for attaching stakeout pole to boat or trolley line on boat.

We made stakeout poles for our fishing kayaks and one works fine for the pontoon if it's in a protected cove, shallow water and no wind. AKA Dead Calm. Will try to get pic next time we're at the dock. MUCH cheaper than the ones for sale online.

... Bus, Don't know. We used one of our horse fencing poles from electrobraid.com.

I got pretty involved with the one I put on my last toon. Experimenting as always. Some of it worked pretty good! This shot is of the ten foot pole running thru the hull into the lake bottom.

I didn't want to add even more lightning rod to the boat so I chose two schedule 80 pvc conduits. They nestled together so tightly that I had to lube and drive the inner one in with a sledge hammer. Made for an extremely strong and fairly light pole. It also doubled as my flag pole :biggrin2
Further details: I built this with the purpose of 'pinning' the rear end of the boat so the wind wouldn't bring it around when I was beached. It saved me all the tedious work of two anchors on land and lines off of each rear corner. It was a great timesaver. I could just land the bow and hop back, pull a quick 'hitch pin', and drop the pole down. I usually didn't even need to put out a bow anchor.
I originally set it up with a modified RV tongue jack (powered). You can see it in the shot. This part of the build didn't work worth a crap. My thought was to DRIVE the pole into the bottom. It sort of worked but made the boat kind of rock on a 'pivot'. So I quit using it and let the pole ride up and down in the guide tube like a dock collar.
It worked well offshore as well in the shallows, but only in soft bottoms. Wait, that didn't sound right
I also used it on the rare occasions that I slept under anchor in deeper water. I would drop the pole and just let it hang there. If I had anchor drag, the pole would hit land before anything else. Fortunately that never happened.
I still have it. I'd like to remount it on my new build, but haven't given it much thought yet. Not quite sure where it would fit.

I am seriously considering this for my rig. I thought about using top rail from chain link fencing, I just happen to have some laying around, but worried about how heavy that stuff is honestly.

I have a brand new pole by Stick It, 8 ft, I am going to try it this weekend, it was $80, it is a heavy T handle pole with a spear shaped end, made out of some kind of plastic, where we go has a really strong current and the boat house we got it at say lots of people use them where we go. I will report back

I have a stick it anchor pin also, I got the 10' and WHEN I use it it works great but honestly I forget about it most of the time...lol... But is has held my boat plus the lake patrol boat that tied of to my boat and talked to us for about an hour while I fished and it was windy that day also...but it does depend on the lake bottom, different bottoms hold better.

tried mine out this weekend and it is absolutely useless, the current was way too strong, i had a hammer with me to help drive it in the sand about 3ft and it did not hold the boat at all, maybe on a lake you could get better results

Hmmm...mine workes good when I use it...I've used it in galvaston bay and it took a couple attempts to get it set but once it was it held!

I use the easy anchor like in above. Video works while for me in shallow water.
