Tips on insulating a live well to serve as a cooler.

#1 Post by Krochus » Sun Jul 14, 2013 7:11 am

See title.

I have two identical live wells up front one airerated and one not. The non airerated live well gets used primarily as a cooler. But being as its not insulated ice doesn't last very long.

So I'm looking to insulate the plastic tub that makes up the live well on the inside some way or another. I have a few inches of air space around the insides of the cabinet between it and the plastic liner.

You could drill a few small holes and inject foam. I don't know how well that works, making sure you get it all foamed. What is the lid made of and the bottom? That is another problem. But anything is better than what you have now.

Oh yea you might buy a small ice chest. I know they get in the way. but there is usually nothing better to use.

Just go buy a Styrofoam sheet, cut it to size, use silicone to stick it and make it waterproof

LoL that's the problem. We usually have TWO not so small ice chests and still end up using the false live well as a cooler for drinks.

Having a grill makes you want to bring stuff to cook on it
