Color Me Impressed

#1 Post by Cycleman07 » Tue Jul 16, 2013 6:18 am

So this past Saturday I had the opportunity to pull skiers and wake boarders for the first time. I new how well my boat would pull tubers but was interested to see how she would handle skiers. The skier was a buddy of mine that weighs in the 210lb range. The hole shot on this boat is incredible. He is an experienced skier and was blown away at how well it got out of the hole. Same success with the Wake Boarder. Its times like this Im glad I maxed out HP for this boat and went with the 150. :nana

I may upgrade my Southbay to the 150 but I dont have any strakes so not sure if it will benefit much. Pisses me off I didnt look around a bit before walking in and plunking down the cash . I wanted a boat by Memorial day weekend last year and this was the week before. I love the boat but want a bit more performance.

This is why in hindsight I'm glad I just got something used to get me on the water last year. You don't know what you don't know, so unless you have been around these boats for awhile, you don't know what options are really needed or at least would be the best for your needs. I'm getting my list together for my next boat (we knew the first one would not be our "ideal" boat). Hell, when I first thought about getting a pontoon boat, I thought I would have been happy with a 50hp motor -- man, how wrong I would have been. Everyone kept telling me to at least get a 90hp, which I did. I think on the next one, it will be a 150 if not 200. We don't want to go fast very often, but it's nice to know you can when the time is needed (out running a storm). We enjoy 3000 rpm cruises at about 10 mph.

So many dealers push under powered boats, and thats fine if you want one. But 75% of what we hear is...
"Why didn't I get more ponies?" I wish everyone would visit us at the forum first before they buy. The worst part is hearing "The dealer said the 115 would push us 45 mph"
Everyone looking to buy, please.... Test drive it, before you buy it! Some dealers do tell little white lies to sell boats! There job is to sell boats to feed their families. It feast or famine out there. Be informed before you start looking.

Oh no, dealer didnt lie and I knew what I was getting. I upped the package from a 90 to a 115 but wanted to pay cash . So my cash limit was under 30k and I did that. I could have done more but I set my max before I walked in. My mistake was thinking for my first pontoon i didnt need anymore.

Never heard anyone say they wish they had less power. Nice to have when you need it and you do not need to use it all of the time.
Absolutely test drive before you make any decision, test several. Folks that have skied behind my toon are amazed and several have said it is better than any other boat they've ever skied with. Wakeboards? Not so sure, there is hardly any wake to play with on mine. YMMV
Dealers...some will say anything to land you in their boat I think.
