3rd log trailer

#1 Post by smoker62 » Tue Jul 23, 2013 9:45 am

Not having a trailer I am not sure how this works. I use my buddys scissor trailer when I need to pull in and out for the season. If I add a 3rd log, obviously I cant use his trailer but will a 2 log bunk work or do you need support for the 3rd. Would the 3rd log even clear the bracing on a two bunk ?

Our dealer uses a 2 bunk for tri-toons in a pinch and it works just fine to tow it, though I wouldn't take it a long way. The dealer will have to use a long fork lift to remove it from a bunk type trailer and put it wherever it needs to go.

Ha , never thought of that. I only have to take it 5 miles or so to my buddys pole barn. But we set his and mine on 4 wheel dollies on each corner so we can roll them tight into the corner. He has full concrete and we tuck them in tight . Wont work with a bunk, no way to get it off. Damn. This 3rd log just doesnt want to happen. :lol3

I'm sure there are other more creative ways to get it off the trailer, like overhead hoists, hydraulic jacks, etc. That's just how a dealer would deal with it to make it quick and minimize damage during handling (yeah right!).

Pickup Camper jacks work great for lifting off a bunk trailer!

Getting a pontoon or tritoon off a bunk style trailer can be done. It just takes some ingenuity. And sometimes hydraulic jacks.

My tritoon sits on a bunk style trailer with no ill side effects as of yet. Loading and unloading is not an issue. I have had mine for 3-4 years and its and 2006.

That surprises me that you haven't had issues. My neighbor has a 24' tritoon and the middle bunks only go back about 1/3 on the trailer. So the entire gas tank/engine (150hp) is not supported. We were going to build full bunks down the middle for the middle toon, but maybe that's not necessary since you haven't seen any issues. He needs some sort of guides for his trailer though -- he just has a 2 sets of posts that stick up (not even rollers on them). He has a heck of time getting on his trailer when there is a lot of wind.
