Mercury/Mariner experts please help...

#1 Post by ToonGuy » Mon Jul 29, 2013 12:14 pm

This is the first Merc I've ever owned. So when looking to order parts, I wrote down my serial number and proceeded to search the web to find out what year I had. Hmmm...not very easy to figure out with the Merc. As I looked in to this further, I realized there's a good chance some thing has been changed here....sholdn't a 2.5L of this era be a 200HP? My hood says 150...perhaps because the boat was rated for 175 max? Also, my number comes up 79-88, but my motor is Fuel Injected, and I was under the impression only Mariners were injected in that vintage? Can any of you old pros help a Merc/Mariner newb out?

Serial number 06104210

How about the model number? It would do more to tell you what the motor is.

That's the problem...I don't know. The only number Merc puts on the info tags is the serial number. And I believe the cowling may have been changed so I can't go by the stickers...

That's all I was able to come up with also...I know it can't be a 1982 though as those wouldn't even be oil injected let alone fuel injected :donno

That Serial number falls into the 1982 serial chart.

multiple places giving same results. And all have oil injection parts available

Well, I'm guessing it truly is a 150, that has been gone over and had a few things changed in the process. I see some marking under the hood that tell me it's had some parts changed over the years, perhaps the transom bracket was one of them. I'm going to guess it's the same year as the boat, a 1994.
