Looking for inexpensive controller ideas

#1 Post by TESmith » Wed Jul 31, 2013 11:39 am

Working on trying to repair Marmac M-1093-D2 controller for my friends mid 80 something Suntracker with 50 hp Merc.

Part of the main housing casting broke, sadly it is die cast pot metal not aluminum, makes a tougher repair.

A friend has some pot metal repair rod we are going to try but I do not have much faith as the housing does have repeating stresses as the throttle is worked forward and backwards. Was considering an epoxy but I know that is more or less a band aid not a proper fix.

So as a backup or for planning if the repair does not take I am looking for suggestions for a inexpensive controller (cheap as possible money is really tight right now, just had to rebuild the Merc lower unit and now this) or if someone may know where to find another casting for this thing!

Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

Now I'm sorry I tossed the old one...no one on ebay wanted it for two listings, so I tossed about a month ago

I've used this to repair several things with success. Fixed the aluminum cover on grill that wind blew over and broke it into 3 pieces. Just follow the instructions. It's supposed to work on "pot metal" too.

The repair went all right with the pot metal filler rod all though these repairs are seldom pretty!

Guess we will see how it holds up once it is back together

I think I would whittle out a "Y"-shaped aluminum plate & overlay that weld...

Yeah, that and I would try to add more solder to it to thicken the area there. or add a hard piece of metal or plastic to it, kind of like a backbone and solder or epoxy it in.
