Mercury Controls on a Honda Bf90d

I have a 2007 Crest 22LE. The original owner told me that the boat had a Mercury outboard on it when he first looked at it. He had them put a 2007 Honda BF90D on it. The boat still has the Mercury control. I think the throttle cable needs to be adjusted. The control travels about 50% before I get any rpm rise on the motor. I always felt that the control traveled to far before I would feel the engine rev up. Also I don't think the boat is getting full throttle. With the control at full I'm only hitting 5000rpm. I use to be able to hit 6000rpm. How do I adjust this?
Thank you

Under the cowl you should be able to un hook the cables and turn the round plastic threaded piece that is attached to cable ends. Just be sure you adjust the right one.

I opened up the cowl and attempted to adjust the throttle cable. It's plastic piece is screwed on all the way. Its bottomed out. There is about 1/2" of threads exposed on the rod. I opened the control and there isn't any adjustment there. Any suggestions?

That's what I was thinking. Would I need new cables as well?
