Dipstick loses dipstick

I have merc 75 hp two stroke, last outing I went to refill the two cycle oil and realized I had forgot to put the lid back on last time out. Looked around on line found the replacement is about 30 bucks w/shipping. I hate to pay that much for a cap. I was wondering if the old cap was vented or if I find anything that fits and cheap could I use it instead.

Can't help you about the vent, but I will say this buy the right part for it. Over the years I have learned that you never Never NEVER save by trying to get by with the wrong part or cheap way out it always comes back to bite you in the ass in the end, and you can only hope that you're not out on the lake when that happens.
