Carpeting bunks - any hints and tips?

I have some 2x4" bunks to carpet and although it appears simple enough in principle, are there any techniques or tips to help me out?
I have a 17'x6' piece of carpet I plan on cutting into 6 12" wide strips. The 12" strips will then wrap around the 2x4's and just meet, ready to be stapled.
I have access to some good double side tape - would it be worth using some of this on the back of the carpet?

I always use stainless staples and only cover three sides of the board. I've change several over the years and four sides of carpet is a waste and holds water to the board longer. And of coarse no treated wood.

My two cents.

I did some research on this a while back before replacing all 4 bunks on my trailer.

I ended up using galvanized roofing nails instead of staples. The carpet is nailed on the bottom (later on the sides because it was easier). Did not use treated wood.

Why not treated wood? I just put carpet on some new bunker guides I made and I used treated lumber for that. There is a very good video on utube showing how to carpet your bunks....the title escapes me at the moment, but if you search for boat trailer restoration it will come up in the top ten I think.

Treated wood can eat holes on your pontoons over time.
