Drying a soaking wet carpet.
We had a wicked storm here on Saturday night with some very heavy rain. Even though the boat has it's mooring cover on, a lot of water manages to get under the openings under the fence and the carpet is soaked - more so towards the back of the boat as that end sits lower and I think the water has tried to run down that way. Maybe....
So anyway, after a few hours uncovered today and cruising around in the nice weather, the carpet is still soaking. We tried opening the front and rear doors to allow more airflow at carpet level and this seems to have made some improvement.
How does everyone else overcome this? I'd rather not just leave the mooring cover off to allow it to sun dry. We've currently left the doors wedged open with the cover back on and will check again tomorrow to see if it's made any difference.
The mooring cover acts like a big tent which holds in the humidity. It has 5 vents where the poles hold it up but these seems pretty ineffective. Maybe some more vents in the doors? A solar powered fan?

Same thing happened here a few weeks ago. I did exactly the same, but put an electric fan in the cockpit facing out of the side gate to help it dry out and circulate the air so it wouldn't get mold and mildew growing. Gets a good draft going though it by sucking the air through the front and rear gates, when the cover is on.

I leave my doors open when it is wet. Seems to do ok.

I pressure washed mine the other day. I used a shop vac to suck up most of the water. Dried pretty good like that in the sun.

Thanks for the wet/dry vac thought. We're dropping the boat in the lower lake tomorrow for a 53 mile ride down to Pickwick Dam.
I power washed my boat on the trailer this afternoon, and got after all those confounded spider droppings with Zep orange degreaser. What Zep wouldn't clean, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser would work. I'll 303 it in the a.m.
Since the boat tail is slanted downhill, the water's wicking to the rear and dropping off the back end.

I usually get around 5 gallons of water out of the carpet when I use the shop vac.Bamaman wrote:Thanks for the wet/dry vac thought.

The easiest way is to open your cover and tilt your boat using the screw jack on your trailer, the water will drain out in a couple of hours, That's if you have a trailer.
