My center toon takes on water at higher speeds from splash or when I power onto the trailer. I have bilge pumps but in the past I have had a float switch get stuck with garbage and currently the on/auto switch on my console is not working in the auto position.
When I stopped for gas Saturday the guy at the marina suggested installing a scupper. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I guess I wasn't aware that the center toon might take on water. No one at my dealership ever said anything about that and, except for the transom area where the motor is mounted I don't see water coming out of the center toon when the boat is on the lift.
I'm not sure what your guy is talking about. A scupper to me is where water that comes on deck is allowed to drain back into the lake, river, ocean, etc. I can't even imagine a scupper on a pontoon log.

I was looking at the Thru Hull type of scupper. Jamestown Distributors sells an automatic bilge drain.
You used to see them a lot on older boats, I had a 56 Chris Craft that had one, as long as your moving the water is forced out.
I trailer my boat so the zebra mussells wont be a problem on the flapper.

Re: Scupper
I have been dealing with my transom on my third log filling from spray for a couple of years. This spring I saw a one way drain plug in the overtons catolog . It is made by sea sense . It is made to put in place in case you forget to put a plug in your boat. I put it in my transom and it works awesome. Apparently it is what all the guys are running in the trick jet skis now. When I was ridding stand ups we had big bilge pumps.

Thanks, I looked at the link.
So you just leave the plug out and run like that?

Re: Scupper
Yup I just leave the plug out. My transom is kind of unique since it was custom built. I have a standard transom welded into a pontoon vs just built on the end. It was open but with my fuel tank in the transom(tank is from a tracker) I didn't want it sitting half it water. I sealed the end of the transom but it would fill with the spray off the logs. The one way plug has worked great all year. I wish I would have found it sooner ! My center log still has a drain plug for the log itself which I really only drain a couple times a year.
