One of those days!

#1 Post by TN3Toon » Wed Sep 04, 2013 2:43 pm

So... Two weeks ago, the family and I head out to the lake in the afternoon for some afternoon fun and late night fishing. Having a good time about sundown and headed in to find a quite cove to get a quick lake bath, change clothes and eat something before finding our nighttime fishing spot. Headed into the cove about 10mph when this crash hits the fence. Look over to see this thing slap the shit outta my wife on the way over the rail! Kids are screaming, dogs barking, wife is stunned! This bastard is thrashing around on the floor cutting itself up, slinging fish crap and blood everywhere! I'm in shock and still headed towards shore when I come to, throw a towel on it, turn the boat and kill the engine. We got that mess cleaned up(and the one in my shorts) and went on into the night fishing. On the way home @ 0200, went to turn the last corner to our house and jumped the curb with the trailer bending the front rim...tire now flat!

Lessons learned: 1. Asian Carp are supposedly tasty. I will have to remember that next time one jumps in my boat! 2. Watch that corner. In fact, I don't go that way when towing anymore!!!

The folks in the condo above ours had an Asian Carp jump into their boat about two weeks ago in a bay on our end of Lake Barkley - one we take folks to ski and tube some.

on the good side, a fish processing plant has just opened nearby that is buying, processing, and shipping the carp back to China. Apparently there is a demand there as the media says the plant has a contract for a million pounds of the things.

Lots of YouTube videos on how to clean and cook Asian carp. Google it up under recipes too.

Yup... Figured that out too about a week before bending that rim. Goes to show that having too low of a ball and sharp turns does to tandem axle trailer tires. The new wheel, tires and ball mount should be delivered tomorrow. BTW- etrailer.com is awesome!

Brad,

We witnessed a carp jump into another boat a couple months ago while they were motoring around. I thought at the time that it was a freak thing that I would never see again! This last weekend, my kids almost took one out on the tube! :scared

Funny, had I had cell service on that part of the lake, I would have kept it. I knew it was an invasive species so we did club it and toss it on shore for something to eat.

No worries, it was...IS STILL funny! After the initial shock wore off we laughed about it all night and then some! The funniest part about it is that my wife still ribs me about jumping up on the seat 'like a little bitch' she says. Man, I had no idea what that thing was other than its a huge fish that attacked my boat and now is beating the crap outta my legs, flopping around under my steering wheel. I told her that I'm the captain of this boat and my first priority is the safety of the people on the boat including her! We were about 30 yards from the rocky shore when I hit the engine kill and turned the wheel. Don't tell her but I was a little scared! I mean what the hell, it's not everyday a fish jumps INTO your boat... :censored

I'm thinking about taking a Louisville Slugger to the lake now! Sounds like some redneck fun... Fish Batting!

Wanna see people act like little girls ? Get one of these in your boat, lol. I catch and keep them. Most of my fishing buddies beg me to make sure it's dead before bringing it on board. Cownose stingray, the venom causes temporary paralysis. This one was 45 lbs.

I had an ex navy guy on this trip, he jumped out of his seat and stood up and though he was gonna have a stroke.

Bad News: The same people that eat carp also eat Buffalo fish, and they live at Mile 1 of Tennessee's I-40.

Good News: Boat wheels are cheap when you order them online. Congratulations on having a good fish story. Sorry everyone was scared.

When I was young and stupid, I would bowfish for those things in a 12 foot jon boat. Had a wire leader, and let them tow me around till they pretty much tired or bled out. Taste like scallops :biggrin2
