Anchor to chain

I bought some nice heavy chain at a sale yesterday. Not sure how chain is measured in size. But the diameter of one side of one link is about 1/2" in size. I bought about 12 - 16 feet for $6.
My question is how long should my chain be on each anchor? I am using 30lb anchors that are bell shaped in a tri shape.
How are you mounting the chain to the anchor?
I am using it in river current maybe 20 - 30 feet deep. Most would be in about 3 - 5 feet of water.
Sorry to see the summer come to an end. But this will give me some time to do some thing s I have been wanting to do. Been boating with the PB for the first time. I love it. Wish I would have done this many years ago.

4-5 foot of chain. Attached to the anchor and then the other end to anchor rope.

Understood! But what are you using to connect the anchor to the chain? The rope is easy, just tie it. Chain kinks up pretty good to tie a knot of any type.

Very strong and a bit of Nylock in them to keep them together.
Many people also use various types of swivels to keep their rope from getting twisted up, but I have read about quite a few of them breaking so I steer clear.
