Well my boat insurance is up for renewal in about a month... since I bought the boat I"ve had it and the trailer insured thru progressive but just for grins I thought I would check out the premium from Boat us..... I know many of you guys use them and I'm sure they're a great company, but lord, the premium quoted to me was A LOT more than I currently pay and the coverages were almost all the same... my annual premium with progressive is 124.00 if I pay the annual premium all at once... the premium at boat us was an even 300.00 Like I said I'm sure they're a great company but nearly 142% more... think I'll pass..... I've never personally had a claim with progressive but I have a friend who uses them -he had a claim 2 years ago and he said they were Johnny on the spot.. Hope I never have to find out for myself....

Yep, I have Progressive also. Can't say anything bad about it since I haven't had to make any claims...knock on wood...but I like their premium. I pay somewhere around $150-175....Don't have it in front of me right now but it's definitely under 200. I have heard bad things in the past about them....but....I'll take my chances.

I just switched from Farm Bureau to Boat US. Less money and better coverage, along with towing and fuel spill. Our home, property and car is with Farm Bureau.

I had the exact same experience and wound up going with Progressive also. Just completed the renewal recently and payed exactly the same as last year, i.e., $178.00 for one year coverage of boat, motor and trailer.
Should add that I had Boat US insurance for many years when I had runabouts in the 80's and 90's. It was a better bargain back then.

I can't recall my premium with BoatUS, but everyone's rates went up, directly due to the hurricane in the north east.

I have taken quotes for the last 3 years, and so far progressive has been the best , and boatus was a joke, because I have a older boat that was rebuilt they demanded pictures, and the snot nosed appraiser had no clue. So this year I am not bothering with them.

Good post, Roland. I'm another Boat US fan and they have always been competitive with me. I think I've had 6 boats insured through them over the years. I think it would be a good idea for me to shop around a little next time based on some of the posts here.

Carl, I also checked with the company that has my home and cars ( Shelter insurance ) and their quote was 174.00 That's only about 50 bucks a year more than I pay thru progressive, but their payout in the event of a total loss would be a depreciated value depending on the boat / motor / trailers age.... My progressive police would pay a stated value ( 25K ) with no depreciation in the event of a total loss.

Progressive here. Full coverage, no deductible on the boat, $250 on the trailer, towing, fuel spill, accessories and everything else covered 100%. About $125 a year.
Had a claim with the them last year. I dropped the boat off at the Sun Tracker dealer and the appraiser inspected it there. A week later, picked it up fixed like new with no hassles.
I've got all my cars, boat, MH, etc. covered through them and have never had an issue.

I have my cars and other things through century 21 / farmers, they dont cover boats so I went through progressive.

We have our boat as part of our home owner's coverage. But I think when it comes time to renew, I'll check with Progressive.

I have Boat US. MY premiums is a little more. Deductible reduces 25% a year if no claims so after 4 years zero deductible. Coverage is for new replacement cost and includes towing. Boat US recently paid a $400 towing bill with no deductible.
I have a $76,000 boat. You can.t compare coverage from differernt people unless the boat value and the horsepower are the same.
Now the big difference -most have stated they are covered for fuel spill but not much.
Boat US coverage is $850,000. YES $850,000.
IF you are involved in an accident you are responsible for fuel/ oil cleanup. Make sure you have an adequate level of coverage before you make your decision.
