I received an email today from Evinrude and they are coming out with a pontoon motor.

Not to many detials on what makes it different then any others...sounds like marketing at it's best . Still cool to see some big new toons in the back yard. I didn't make it down to snoop around, but my buddy said they had some impressive rigs.

Sounds like the pontoon series has softer motor mounts, different gear ratio, and an external oil tank for more oil capacity. I think it is interesting that a motor manufacturer is finally building motors for the pontoon people. I wonder if mercury and the others will follow suit.

Since these have an external oil tank, does that mean these are 2-stroke motors?

I believe ETecs are two stroke motors. I wonder if 90HP is the only horse power they will make or this is just the beginning of a series if sales fly out.

cool to see something supposedly built specifically for toons. I agree, probably lots of marketing. Looking forward to reviews to see of the "pontoon" features make much difference.

It's a lot more than marketing. They've done their homework and created an entirely new class of motor. I was especially interested in the claim that it gets two times the fuel economy of four strokes. A two stroke more efficient than a four stroke?? 3 years or 300 hours between service, winterize it yourself - pretty darned cool. Let's not forget the 25 amp charging system and CARB certified, not to mention the huge remote oil reservoir. Good thinking there. I wonder how much it weighs, and I'll bet the price is insane but considering all the new features probably well worth it.

My rock solid 87' Yammy 90 hp 2 stroke will stay on my boat until it pukes - but it is dirty, gets horrible fuel economy and only has a 10 amp charger. With 41 gallons of fuel I can only go 80 miles with a 20% reserve.

Like the bigger motor mounts as at idle and low rpm mine shakes the boat and rattles doors

Looks like they are making up to 150HP. Pulled up the specs on the website though comparing the 150 Pontoon and the 150HO. Aside from the expected increase in prop level HP with the HO, I couldn't see a difference in gear ratios, weight or anything else.

We've got a 250HO on our pontoon and it's already whisper quiet compared to our last boat. Will be interesting to hear people's experiences as this hits the larger market.

My 91 Evinrude had a remote oil tank, big deal, but I'm glad to see they are working on making an engine for pontoons, what took them so long ?

They could always make some porting changes to the powerhead.

It'll be nice to see some comparisons between the different brands of motors.
