Here we go again
Crud. One of the colder Decembers on record for us. And January is usually WORSE. Hard to get any dry-boatin done. My beer gets slushy too fast

Sounds like a weather report for Alaska. You must make very good money where your at. Or, you're just a glutton for punishment? I'm from lower MI (59 yrs) , until I finally saw the light and moved to paradise in 2001. I thought that it got cold in MI... but, nothing like were your at. Don't stick your tongue on a flagpole or piss on a electric fence.

I think you have to be born into that, or maybe have lost your way and took a right turn on I-35 instead of left and wound up there rather than south Texas.

It's a good location to be. Pontoons in the summer and sleds in the winter.

I agree with Rob28. I LOVE the variety of seasons, although the severe cold gets a bit tedious. Much of the time it is in the 10s and 20s tho and does make for perfect sledding. Rob, I almost made it up to Dryden once on sled, but the group had to turn back with mechanical issues. Ended up having a pretty good party in Atikokan instead. Some amazing topography.
You need to really love nature AND hate crowded areas to live here. Which I do. I lived in the Twin Cities for a few years and was ready to slit my wrists by the time I got out. Those that actually manage to get this far into the boonies for a vacation are in total awe of the vast tracts of land and water (and swamp) without a hint of human touch. I've been on a lot of lakes in Canada and the States. It only seems to get better as you go north. Canoeing up toward the Arctic Circle really blew me away.

Tuned, that is an awesome snowmobiling weather forcast!!!! That's what we do where I live (Upper Peninsula of MI) when we can't be out on the pontoon. I know in your neck of the woods it is the same when it comes to snowmobiling. Happy New Year everyone.

It's got to be a little warmer than this before I climb on the Cat. Especially considering the 10 or so solo miles I have to do thru the bush before even hooking up with anyone. I wouldn't relish having to walk out in the middle of the night.
Above zero daytime and ten or twenty below night running is about my absolute max. If I know that I will absolutely be getting home (or somewhere) in the daylight, I will run below zero in the daylight. I have my space blanket and candles (and ice picks) on board, but I have way to much respect for Ma Nature to even consider pushing it. She's killed more than one up here in the winter.
Quick story on that: A couple of years ago, thirty below. Law enforcement gets a call about a cabin break-in on the lake. When they get there in the morning, they find sled tracks leading directly into American Narrows, which is always thin ice no matter how cold the winter because of current. The sled track ends at a hole, but they find boot prints in the snow leading up onto an island. At a cabin with a busted door, they find not one, not two, but THREE extremely hungover Canadians that were trying to get home in the dark on ONE sled. They had a fire going, but the cabin was uninsulated. Amazing that nobody lost any fingers or toes.
I can't imagine the horror of that plunge and trying to get back on the ice in the blackness.
Aaand that's why I carry ice picks

Tuned,
I agree that is a too cold to be riding serious miles for sure. I have attached a couple of pictures which I thought are neat. One is a summer pic and one winter pic of a waterfall dropping into Lake Superior near the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore between Munising and Grand Marais, MI. I have ventured out along the lakeshore for several miles and visited the "rocks" on my pontoon and also on my snowmobile. This year the snowmobile season just might be longer than the boating season. Ugh!!!!!

Brrrrrr!
This year, if summer falls on a weekend, you guys should have a picnic.
I don't know how you guys do it. I want to move south for 2 months in the winter and I live in the Phoenix area! No human should need to endure weather under 65 degrees. It is just inhumane!
