Radar arch Bimini

#1 Post by Mrtoler » Sun Feb 02, 2014 10:44 pm

I was searching the web today and stumbled across this neat product. I've always liked the new radar arches on the new high end toons but I've just got spoiled with my last double Bimini top and I need the shade more.. Now you can have your cake and eat it to, this comes in a automatic version that extends with a push of a button and a manuel version with a hand crank....it's called a sure shade .... Check it out

That sounds too cheap. I just paid over $3,000 for a 11' long canvas/eisenglass "Day Enclosure" from Premier and the dealer gave me a $500 discount with free shipping. I have to install it myself!

If I'm reading it correctly, the boat has to be equipped with an arch. So I don't think the arch is included in the price. Knowing that, the $2500 price tag seems a little more realistic.

Correct, you would either have to have an existing arch or build your own... I have seen the fiberglass arches for sale on eBay though.....I was dead set on two of the power bimini tops on my new boat but now i might look into building an arch out of aluminum tubeing and getting one of these...l it also can stand 50mph winds while open!

Does anyone know if most or some of those radar arches on pontoons are collapsible? I like them as long as they could be easily folded down.

My Bennington sitting on the trailer is right at 8' tall even without a sport arch.

You'd just about have to get a custom car port, garage door or boathouse built to get such a boat out of the water.

I would like to have a pair of Schwintek power bimini's, however. They're about $1K each.

Before buying my Premier last December. I boated in a Sea Cat power catamaran with only a T top for protection from the HOT SW Florida sun & summer rain. In hunting for some shade/rain protection , I did a very exhausting and through search of any and all shade/rain options.

They were all Ski high prices. I mean, like $2K for a sunshade from the rear of the T top (6') to the transom. It only gave shade at High noon due to lacking any curvature. The T top also gave minimum protection and only at high noon. The area in front of the T top was also in need of protection. None of these sunshade/rain covers would allow me to travel at any speed and would cost about 6/7K. The Cat is now for sale...

After getting the poop beat out of my 73 year body due to being caught in a gale two miles west of Sanibel Island in the Gulf of Mexico. I got the message (Thank you Lord)..... I got on line, and found my current Premier. The Cat is now for sale. As is the (new) fresh water trolling motor that came with the Premier.

To me it was cheaper to buy a pontoon boat to get some real sun protection from the Premiers 11' long Bimini with good curved side protection. My (still recovering) back thanks me. The softer ride and room to walk around is like riding in my living room. The soon to be installed day enclosure will give me and my fishing buddies protection from the daily one hour summer rains here in Paradise.

The guys on the THT forum think I'm not a real boater any more (screwthem). I'll love flying by them this coming summer in my comfortable high back chair, cold drink in hand, shaded from the sun and protected from the rain. :rofl

Sorry... too much information.

This is what I planned on getting so far but I like the radar arch also... I know the Schwinteks would be a lot cheaper though....I guess it just depends where my budget is at when I get to that point.

That is why I was asking about the ability to collapse or fold down these radar arches. If they can be lowered/tilted forward easily, then I like them. They seem like a great place to run lighting, speakers, a sturdy place to anchor bimini tops, etc. I see all kinds of uses. However, if they are permanently tall, then I would not want one.
