help with decisions please

#1 Post by gd3rd » Fri Mar 13, 2009 9:24 am

we are looking at 2009 Harris Super Sunliner240 and 2008 Bennington 22' 2275 RLi. Have driven both and like both alot. i have done research and see jd power rankings. both are new boats and loaded. here are the questions:

1. which boat? (keep in mind the bennington dealer is farther away and quite frankly they are rude which makes me worry about service and dealing with them later) prices are very close (mercury harris and yamaha-bennington). wife doesn't like color of bennington and hates the dealer

2.Engine size? we have looked at 150 aqd 225hp. both dealer say go with 150 and there is 5K differnce in price for engine upgrade. i have heard really not much diff in top speed. i have 2 kids under age of 3 and using it mainly for tubing and cruising. man inside of me says bigger engine but everyone tells me not much difference in the two.

thanks for helping out a rookie.

The wife doesn't like the color or the dealer, I think you have your answer, I would do the same and take my money to where they wanted it.

Welcome ! If the Bennington dealer is rude to you now, imagine how rude he'd be if you have warranty issues. Frankly, in this economy he should be kissing your ass for the sale and throwing in couple of hookers, but that's just my opinion :tofunny

I'd tell the Benny dealer to kiss my ass and then send him pics of the boat you bought elsewhere. :tofunny

Hi gd3rd.....welcome to the club.
In my opinion, you have 2 decisions to make.
1. Go with the dealer you feel more comfortable with and trust more.
2. And more importantly, make your wife happy. If she doesn't have fun on the 'toon, neither will you.
Good luck and let's see pictures.

We have the Harris Super Sunliner in a 20' with a Honda 90. We have had this boat 3 years with zero problems. The Bennington is a super toon also. But to me the dealer is one of the most important things, as you will be back sooner are later to see him for tune ups and warranty work should the boat are motor need any. Good luck with your choice

The rule of this forum is the biggest you can afford. My 115 is fine for the price but a 175 would sure the hell be nicer.

Got a 150 opti on my tri toon at about 40mph, my guess is I would be 45 mph with a 200hp plus or minus.
It has lifting strakes and is pretty light for a 24 footer.

gd3rd Welcome to the forum! I don't know if Bennington trains the salesmen like that or what. I have the same experience when i was looking to buy a toon. In less that 2 minutes I was ready to kick his ass! Very rude!!!

If the 225 is in your buget I would go for it. No one has ever said I should have gotten the smaller one after they purchased their boat.

You may want to look at the Yamaha performance bulletins to get a better idea of what the speed difference will be.

I agree with Badmoonrising!! dealer should be doing flips for you.Harris is a great choice. test drive both boats.let the wife choose the color and you choose the engine and choose the 225. If you choose the 150 make sure its not a 2008 left over and if it is ,it should be cheaper. which ever one you choose it will be fun . Hae a great Summer

I agree with checking for speed difference. You obviously will have more power and less stress on the motor at cruising speed if you go 200+ HP, but $5000 bucks for 5 MPH is not worth it. Put the 5 grand towards more equipment and a slip for the boat.
