Ok, I know that on most forums, oil is a slippery subject to say the least. I hope not to open a can of worms. But what oil are most of you using? Mercury recommends QuickSilver 25W-40 Synthetic Blend. I am thinking that since I will be changing it once a year, what the heck, just use the merc oil. Any thoughts?

On my Yamaha 150, my dealer quietly told me to use 10W30 regular high quality motor oil.
After reading on BobIsTheOilGuy.com in the marine section, I see that may outboards used in mega hour use (offshore fishing) are running Universal Oil or Diesel style oil. It just won't work with any engines on catalytic converters.
I'm going to be switching to Mobil One full synthetic when I get more hours on the boat. There are many comparative oils that would work fine also.

I don't mess with my motor. My marina uses Mercury synthetic/blend and that's what the dealer I bought the boat from recommended. It's also what they use in all Merc/Yamaha motors they service.

Thanks everyone for the input! For changing it once a year, I will stick to the Mec oil that is recommended.
