I don't see a lift eye on these 250s, is it acceptable to lift from these 3 bolts?

Can't answer on those 3 bolts, but does the inside where the flywheel nut is have threading? Thats where the "special" lifting eye threads into. I have one if you want to borrow it. I'm only 2 hrs away or I can mail it.

You can see it in the below picture sitting right where the deck cap is over the left hand toon. It's the black people of metal wtih the eye built in.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. That's what has me stumped...These are 25" off shore motors, but I wouldn't think that would matter :donno

I would think you'd remove the nut on the top of the flywheel and screw in the lifting eye. The part is $35ish.

The three holes might also take the Verado lifting eye held by grade 8 bolts--part cost $150-180 cost on EBay.com.

I am pretty sure Ferg is on the right track here. The lift eye should thread into the center shaft, possibly using a threaded stud. I have done this on several motors.
The large nut holds the flywheel on. The three threaded holes in the triangle pattern are for the flywheel puller. If you do end up using some sort of special tool that fits into the three holes, make sure you DON'T remove the large flywheel nut.

Ty, do you have the serial #? or the engine model number?

I understand the way it SHOULD be, but it appears it's not. The last few OMC motors all had threaded crank shafts, and lifted them by installing an bolt/eye in that. I'll see if I can read the #s....

Is the inside of the flywheel threaded? Can't tell from the photo posted... Anyway you may be looking for something like this for your motor. Mallory Marine 9-79822 Lifting Eye Tool for Mercury Outboards

Yep, that's it. With some light I see the threads are on the inside of the fly wheel and not the end of the crank. I'm just going to use the 3 bolt locations on the fly wheel, it's no more stress then pulling from the center if I have it distributed evenly, and I believe I have a plate that will work. Thanks!

No worries mate. I know that you have much experience in general. Just wasn't sure how much you had in hoisting, particularly Mercs.
But if ya really wanna go :box , I'm game. As long as we get to wear those huge poofie gloves :lol3
