My wife asked what i would like for a up coming BD and i had to think a moment and thought about adding a new compass, now i realize most use a GPS and i have a hand held one i use some times but I have all ways had a compass on the console. The one i have now is a old automotive one I have had for years and i have all ways liked the look of the in dash mounted ones.

I like it, I've been looking for one myself! It's always good to have back ups for electronics. Thanks for posting the link.

I love the looks of that compass! Even though I say I would like to have one aboard, I can't imagine needing it. On the 20 mile-long lake where I'll be slipping the boat this year, there's no point, where you would be saying "now which way am I traveling?" You just look at the surrounding mountains, and you know where you are.

It on order and should be in in a few days. I do have a hand held GPS unit that I use when I am on a strange lake or on some one else boat, but their about 6 or 7 lakes that i fish and I have ran those so many times over the years i know them way to well, so a compass is a just in case thing a nasty fog rolls in. About 25 years ago a friend and I were out breaking in his brand new boat on a night cat fishing trip on a lake that's known for fogs that are so dense you cant see 10 feet and yes it hit us and while trying to get back in we ended up just putting it on the bank and building a fire and waiting for daylight. Ever since then I have kept a compass. It wasn't that it was all that bad but it was a total white out and the boat was turning in a slow circle and and we couldn't see any of the nav buoys so we lost all VFR references. The next morning we went and got a compass and million CP search light. We went back the next night and didn't have any problems. In today's times ever one uses GPS but i cant bring my self not to have a compass.

Nice .
I wouldnt be on the water without a compass , make sure to calibrate it after its mounted . I used to have a huge compass I would mount on all of my bass boats and it has helped me alot of foggy mornings and nights .Right now I have a cheap one mounted in the pontoon right now but I plan on replacing it with a ritchie midsized unit. I even have compasses mounted on all 3 of my kayaks .
