Where did you buy the carpet?
I am looking for something without backing, everything i find at the local stores has a backing!

I used outdoor carpet from Lowes to recover my engine compartment. The deck leads right from the swim platform and the ribbed carpet added a lot of grip.

everything at the Lowes in Lancaster has a backing on it, which would make it hard to form around edges of the hatch.
I am looking for something like this, but more durable:

But, it is not "marine" carpet. I used it the last time I did a boat, and after 7 seasons, it basically fell apart.
Should I just use this type, and resign myself to the reality that I will have to replace it every few years?

I bought carpet directly from my boat manufacturer. It was actually very reasonably priced.
