That sucks.
How did it get wet? Does it not install into a normal location like most radios, or was it out in the open?

it was mounted in the normal spot with the weather proof cover on it. :x there is a depth finder/gps mounted on the dash above it. guess water got in around wires and screw holes

Kenwood used to be good stuff but I know in the ham radio world they have became really hit or miss as far as radios go. They will release a wiz bang radio and then replace it with one that sucks within a couple of years then keep the sucky one for 6 or 7 years in its line up

The non-marine radio's don't like any kind of moisture, the circuit boards rust easily and crap out. The marine grade radios have coated circuited boards that do better in moist environments.

If you read the fine print in the Kenwood warranty it specifically states that it is NOT water-proof. They coat the circuit boards and that's it, they don't waterproof the chassis. There are very few radios that are fully water-proof, especially under $200!

I'm installing a new Kenwood in my pontoon rebuild and it will have a plastic cover over it so water can't run down into the chassis from above. I'll try to remember to take pics of it mounted in the console.
