Finally Pulled The Trigger!

#1 Post by illinoid » Mon Jun 23, 2014 7:17 pm

I bought a 40 year old Kayot Commodore 24 foot with recently redone floor and seating and a 70Hp Johnson. I also picked up a new 2 axle wolverine trailer. We have spent a lot of time cleaning and I have rebuilt the transom. I still need to go to my motor guy and have him run it with the muffs to get his OK. I have taken the 8 hr USCG Aux. course and have put it on my Auto Insurance policy. I loaded it single handed when I picked it up with a stiff tail wind with very little problem. I have boated occasionally over the years in rentals and friends boats. My biggest question is where to launch for the shakedown voyage. It doesn't have tilt/trim. I live near Sycamore Illinois. Admiral requests a restroom at the launch site. Thanks for responses and all the questions that have already been answered on other posts on line.

Them old Kayots had some pretty heavy duty tubes on them and the shape of the bottoms add a decent lifting effect too! I haven't seen too many that old around here but there are a decent amount of newer/smaller ones with small diameter round tubes around.

Finally got her in the Rock river today at Lowden State park ramp for sea trials. Water 2 ft from flood stage so current was swift but it handled well except that the prop would blow out at much over Idle, I think the trim was set too high...1st hole so when I got home I moved it down two holes. 13&3/4 by 15 prop is worn down to just under 12 inches so Santa can add that to the list, along with the depth finder, gps, etc...B.O.A.T. Probably could have listed this as a rebuild by the time I rebuilt the transom, mounted the trolling motor, engine work, etc;-)
