Long wait for repair

Wow 3 weeks is a long time waiting to get boat into service. Total Marine in Eufaula will be replacing Impeller because It ran at 45 seconds before we got it back in water when engine wouldn't turn off. Also going to have new plugs, fuel filters changed. I ask him to also check wiring mess under console and give a price to redo it all. He said he don't fix it but starts from scratch. If lass than $150 gonna say go to it
Any guesses how much this will cost? I'm saying $400 +

Loyd I would be shocked if it was less than $400. When I took out my console to paint it I also changed all the gauges. What a freaking rats nest of wiring! Why the hell they don't use plug in gauges? I am used to working on furnaces and ac units but never saw a mess like this.

Wow, 3 weeks to get it in. I wonder how long to do the work.
I'd be curious as to how much for the impeller change. I still need to get that done at some point this year. I've been meaning to stop by that new place on 9A just West of Hwy and get a price.

$125 for impeller. I could do it as I did this spring. Evinrudes still make it a pain in the ass to change where everyone else is simple

I've watched a few videos on changing the impeller and that just looks like something I'd leave for the pros to do. I could see me messing things up which would end up costing me more than $125 not to mention back issues after bending over and trying to lift the LU.
I will change the motor oil and the LU oil every other year and then have the pros do it on the years I don't (so the impeller can also be changed then too).

It really isn't hard or heavy. I have a fused hip and can't bend very far so I tilt motor up to make it easy. If you only have to drop lower unit and not remove a bunch of cowlings it can be done in less than an hour.

Ok, 3 week wait to get in, 2 weeks before they got to it. So 5 weeks and she is done.
New impeller=======$47.59
4-New plugs =======$55.00
New fuel sender kit===$45.00
Fuel filter=========$14.00
2 lowerunit seals and grease==$14.00
1 Tilt pin retainer=====$ 6.00
Total with labor $635.53
In 45 years boating I have never had a bill like this. I consider myself lucky

Sounds like a lot of money for labor. Did they find out why it wouldn't turn off?

I haven't got to talk with them about that as all were gone but wife. The reason it wouldn't start was when I cut fuel line to kill it the oil that kept feeding fouled the plugs so bad it couldn't fire. I thought labor was very excessive also.

Sounds WAY too much for labor. Even at $80 an hour, they are charging you about 8 hours labor...wtf

Wow loyd... that's a pretty big labor charge... nearly 75% ( actually 73.6% ) of your bill was labor.... how much actual time do you think they actually spent doing those things.... based on what the marine shops around here get ( 100 an hour ) that's a little more than 4 1/2 hours based on your labor charge.... Last year I had my boat serviced ( not at the 100 buck an hour shop ), had a new water impellar put in, spark plugs, fuel filter, water filter, changed oil and greased my trailer axle fittings and it ran me 429.00 Nope, boats are not cheap....

When I changed impeller myself this spring it took me about 2 hours. 20 min to actually change impeller, the rest was fighting the cowling's and shift lever under powerhead. Changing plugs was about the same as you have to remove same cowels to access bottom plug.

Well spent day on Eufaula and motor ran and died as it should. Put in at Eufaula cove and cruised up to Arrowhead area. Saw 4 dead big spoonbills floating.

You were up around my neck of the woods. Too bad we weren't down there - you could have stopped by.
I did find that new boat repair shop - right at "cluster f*** corner" where 9 and 9A merge. Its called Big Mac Marine - they just moved there about a year ago from McAlester. I need to call them and check prices.
Glad to hear your boat is running good again.
