I keep meaning to post this, but every weekend, I cross the Arkansas River several times, starting near the top of Fremont Pass (elevation 11,318 feet). At the headwaters, I could probably stand with one foot on each bank. Every time I drive that route, I think of you folks WAY down-river, having fun on your boats. We still have snow up there! Some day, I may pull my toon down to boat with y'all!

Well drag that boat and get on down here. There are many people that boat on the Arkansas River - putting in around Sallisaw and going through 3 locks to make their way over to Ft. Smith, AR. I've done that trip with friends on their boat but my little 90hp would make the trip a little stressful.
Hmm, I wonder how far down the river you could put in from CO and make it to OK. I know there are several parts of the river here in Tulsa that are not navigable.

I always laugh at stuff like this.
In Colorado, there's a LOT of water in the Arkansas (pronounced ar can saw) river.
In western Kansas however, that water disappears and there's nothing but dry riverbed until just about Gt. Bend.
And at the Colorado/Kansas border, it ceases to be called the ar-can-saw river and becomes the ar cans ZASS river.
Here in Kansas (Cans Zass) it's the ar-cans-zass river, it's even Arkansas (ar-cans-zass) City until it gets to the KS/OK border where it again becomes the ar-can-saw river.
Where I live I have the Little ar-cans-zass on the north side of me and the BIG ar-cans-zass on the south side of me.
And neither one of them typically have enough water to boat in unless you're paddling a canoe!
And yet, by the time it gets to the Tulsa OK area, there's enough water to not only boat but support barge traffic.
Kinda interesting heh?

We would love to have you Bob. Speaking of the Arkansas River, the Annual River trip is next weekend when me and about 60 other boats make our way from Kerr Reservoir down the Arkansas River to Fort Smith Arkansas and Back. 2 day trip. Loads of fun. You should join us next year.
