Getting mildew/mold off bimini top

Just recently we put our bimini top up for the first time in two years. It is covered with mildew. I know we can take it off and wash it (Admiral thinks we can do it on gentle cycle in the washing machine), but which products do we use to treat it before washing?
Also, any suggestions for a treatment afterwards to minimize recurrence of the mildew and to possibly waterproof it?
Thanks!

and then 303 Fabric Guard after cleaning to waterproof and protect. And 303 Aerospace Protectant for your vinyl surfaces. It really does work.

I sprayed 1.5 gallons on my slip cover this spring, it sure sheds water good now.

On my previous boat, I took to off and laid it in the sun for an hour or so...sunlight kills a lot of it's then soaked down with ammonia and water . Let it set for 15 min and then pressure washed the hell out of it,being careful not to directly spray the seams.
Let it dry good and it looked like new, man...

Thanks everyone for the tips! Going to be involved with the LOTO Shootout for the next week & 1/2 and then I'll get to it.
