Update on my trailer damage and Progressive Insurance...
A quick update on my previous thread concerning damage to my trailer at the ramp. I thought I would start a new thread specifically to give a shout out to Progressive Insurance, for the benefit of others who may be considering their services. My wife phoned in a claim with Progressive even while we were pulling home from the lake that day. They are available 24/7, took our info, and a rep called me back early Monday morning...pretty quick! The adjuster came to my home two days later, and I can't say enough about how nice and prompt he was. We talked it over and agreed on the repairs needed. He then sat in his car/office and did the computer work, cutting me a check before he left! I ended up with over 600 bucks damage, and with a 250 deductible, I am pleased overall. He said he will follow up with both myself and the repair shop this week to see how its going. I am having the new axle mounted at a truck shop that is only a couple miles from my home, so I was lucky in that respect as well.

Re: Update on my trailer damage and Progressive Insurance...
I ran away from progressive years ago when they double my rate over night, when things when bad and I took a credit rating hit lile most of the world, they told me there is no way to find it cheaper, I said I call you back in a minute, called two companies for rates chose Geico , called them back, they said see I knew you couldn't find one, I said cancel my account with you, I found one for this amount, they said no way, I said I found two in the first two calls, same coverage and all and at a less of a rate than the old one before you raised it.
I didn't like who they were donating all their money to and the rate jump did them in for good, Flo can shove it

yep, i believe they actually had a class action suit over the doubling of rates.
what they actually were doing was sending renewals that reflected the exact same premium as the last renewal. you had to read the fine print to figure out that they had reduced the terms of the contract from 1 year to 6 months, so everyone was happy to send them a check thinking they had the same rate as before. My check was actually in the mail before i realized what they had done. I cancelled the check and found new insurance

Hey I am happy that they stood behind their word and covered your trailer, isn't that why we pay insurance anyway. . I bet we all have had issues with insurance companies in the past and can tell horror stories about them. Anyway good job getting your trailer covered and I hope its fixed soon so you can get on the water. I also hope you don't have another bad day like the rainy one. Good luck with progressive, I also hope they don't jack your insurance premium up after a claim.

Re: Update on my trailer damage and Progressive Insurance...
I had heard that some progressive customers saw big increases... I guess I've been fortunate in that hasn't happened to me and my boat is insured by them as well... but this will probably be the last year I use them. My premiums are really low.. my policy calls for a flat 25K payout if I should total the boat.. there's no depreciation for the first 5 years, but after the initial five years, they start figuring in depreciation... my boat will be five years old at the end of the current policy period, and at that point I'll probably just add my boat to my Shelter Insurance policy which already has my house and vehicles... and I agree with what someone else said, I'm sure we all have heard horror stories about all major companies... Years ago I had state farm for my homeowners... but after a storm came thru the area every single house on my street got a new roof, except my claim with state farm was denied.... I sold the house a few months later and the first thing the appraisal came back with was I needed to put a new roof on the house because of hail damage.... 1 month later when I moved to my current home I cancelled State farm and took out Shelter insurance... And I have to say, although not the cheapest insurance, they have been johnny on the spot and ponied up whenever I've had a claim...

Roland: You're fortunate to be able to use Shelter Insurance. They're right there at the top of the industry with Amico and USAA as far as I'm concerned. Many don't realize that they're also a great source of auto financing--and very conservative in writing insurance.
When working, I had to deal with many different insurance companies. The bottom of the barrel--Farmers Insurance Group out of Kansas City. They caused me more grief than all the other companies combined.
