Depending on the engine, the HP can be changed by tweaking the computer for timing, fuel pressure and injection, plus using higher octane fuel. All 4 would have to be done, as just 1 wouldn't do anything good for the engine. Some porting (machine work) on the intake and exhaust would also be required.

Either that, or he just changed shrouds or HP decals. :?

Those are called frankenmercs and unless you want one just to fuck with i would advise you not to pick it up, its a endless money pit that never runs right.

On a pallet ready to go but will it! Won't buy a used motor without testing if it runs.

was not even considering buying it, just got a laugh out of it.

timing and fuel??? i have never seen any engine get 33% increase in power by changing timing and fuel. I don't think any manufacturer would even consider retarding a motor that badly especially in a marine application. motor would not be long for this world.

Bingo.
Several of the manufactures use the same CI to achieve different HP levels. You can up the injector size, flash the computer or replace the computer with a 200hp unit, ( same thing , different direction) and up the power on a motor but why buy one that has been tinkered with when there hundreds out there that have not. :nono
My views, outboards are way, way over priced, but we have to have them if we're going to play. Catch 22... :biggrin2
Most will not use their boats enough to justify buying new but then most won't buy new, but 2 and 3 year old motors are everywhere so a changed motors is a flight risk.
My bass boat came out of TN . Motor ordered out of Fl. Both used but wanted some type of warranty with the motor.
Boats will take care of them self unless you drive them onto the rocks, trees, or try a 30 mph loading at the ramps, which I have seen. LMAO

Oversize pistons, changed stroke, cams, injectors, decals who knows.... But at 18 years old it will not be my intermittent issue!
