NEWBY owner here , the toons are driving me crazy on how bad they look after a day on the water, I spent the weekend trying to get them looking decent !!
I used the NAPA cleaner and a soft pad to remove black marks and applied sharkhide .

Never use a brillo pad.

+1 If you do, you will have embedded steel in your aluminum which will rust.
