Yamaha outboard engine cover with extension for lower unit?

My new Tri Toon (Berkshire 233 STS series RFX with a Yamaha 200) will be in around the end of October.

I see a few Yamaha outboard engine covers, but they only seem to cover the top section. Does anyone know of a cover that covers the top, and has an extension (perhaps 3 sided) that covers the lower unit too so the sun doesn't get it too?

Worst case, if there is no such item, I'd buy a regular engine cover (top section) and attach something to the bottom edge of the primary engine cover that hangs down around the lower unit in a "C" shape too.

Any thoughts, or suggestions???

thanks,

Richard

Yamaha engine covers are a single piece, and they fit tightly in a rubber gasket on the mid section of the motor. That's all there is. Beware that it's very easy to drop that engine cover in the lake whenever you're checking your oil dipstick. The engine covers don't float. A replacement cowling is about $1,400 and the vinyl tape stripes are not included.

Since you asked.... Why? The lower unit is made to be not only exposed but submerged in salt water and unless your leaving your rig completely exposed to brutal desert like weather conditions for long periods of time there is no compelling reason to cover your motor beyond a cowling cover if so desired. Keeping a cover to protect the interior seats, carpet and electronics makes all the sense in the world but covering up the lower unit just seems like a waste of time and money.....

We bought a full cover like the picture above for our Evinrude from http://www.toughduckmarine.com/marine. Makes trailering less stressful cause I'm not worried about stones bugs etc. hitting the engine on the highway, and keeps snow off and prying eyes out when the boat sits for the winter. Was about $250 plus shipping.

Thanks everyone!

As I am looking for something while the toon is on our covered boat house lift and the morning sun would hit the stern of the boat, and outboard I came up with a "home made" solution. I ordered a Deluxe Yamaha cover ( top of engine). In addition, I ordered a yard of Sunbrella Gray fabric and some edge binding, and a spool of marine grade thread. I intend to make a "U" shaped extension from the bottom back side of the Yamaha cover, that will hang down and cover the lower unit on 3 sides. It will just hang straight down beyond the prop. If I need to weight the bottom edge, I can sew fishing weights into the bottom edge.

We've got a local, very inexpensive seamstress who has done other oddball boating stitching for me in the past year, so I'll take her the cover and material and it should do what I want.

Anyone tried anything like this?

I purchased the Yamaha top cowl cover mainly because the birds were building a nest in the open space on top of my f150. I pulled a nest out of there complete with eggs that had not hatched yet. Hated to upset the birds but I was more upset with them setting up housekeeping in my brand new engine. The cover solsved my problem. JB

I put a cover on my old Manitou's Etec because the sun was fading it out. I bought a cover from Bass Pro for the Premiers Verado that covers the cowl and about 3/4's of the lower unit. works great. Your idea sounds like it will work real well! Post some pics when its done!

When we bought our 'new to us' toon a couple of years ago, the previous owner still had the Yamaha cover that just goes over the cowling. I put it on to keep the mud daubers from building nests in the engine. Now if there was just a way to keep them from building nests in the ends of the bimini frame and everywhere else.

Finally got back to the lake and tried out my modified Yamaha cover with the "homemade" extension to keep the sun from fading the engine drive unit.
