Hi guys,

need some advice on winterizing/repairing the toon.

First my left log has some water inside. The drain plugs in the back of both toon have been patched with some kind of epoxy rubbery thing. I'd like to peel it out, drain the logs and repatch it. What kind of epoxy is recommended for this type of job?

Second, both logs have algae and barnacles on them, I would like to bottom paint them. My plan is to sand the crap off, while leaving the current black paint on there so I don't ave to metal prime it, then repaint several coats of maybe interlux Pacifica Plus on there. Any tips for this type of job?

I use an aluminum cleaner from Napa. Then I would paint the toons just make sure you use a bottom paint for aluminum. If not for aluminum it will eat up your toons.

Get rid of the epoxy/rubber/JB Weld or whatever it is and have the holes welded. All those things are temporary fixes, might as well do it right. Power wash the logs, scrape off the barnacles with a plastic scraper, look for spots in the primer and make sure no bare metal is showing, repaint with paint safe for aluminum (NO COPPER)...good to go. Even aluminum "safe" paint shouldn't go on bare aluminum.
