Transom Hold Down Location

#1 Post by Seon » Mon Feb 02, 2015 2:48 pm

On my new to me 21' Sea Nymph that I bought last week didn't have any transom straps. Although the trailer has the brackets, however, I don't see a place to connect the hook straps on the Toon's frame other than the brackets on the Tube itself. I don't know if that's strong enough to attach the hold down straps. Comments?

I did mine a little different because I didnt want the straps leaving marks on the toons and didnt want the strap going over the bracket on the rear of the toon that the transducer is on. I drilled my trailer and the boat and put stainless eye bolts in so I had a solid connection.

A little hard to see but think your straps are vertical and your eye bolts are drill thru the deck?

I went through the motor pod, where the aluminum was the thickest which is almost straight above the brace on the trailer that I drilled through. On the trailer I went out as far as my drill would fit while the boat was on the trailer. This lets each strap pull at opposing angles rather than straight up and down. The straight up and down part is the extra tail on the strap that I tie down around the trailer to keep from flapping.

Thanks for the clarification. I was concern that the motor pod wouldn't be strong enough but apparently it is. I think I'll do the same with mine so that the straps don't mar-up the toons.
