Pontoon Boat & Deck Boat Forum

We are looking at used boats for sale so a couple of questions. Is marine vinyl all the same thickness? Is it hard to match up for repairs? How do you maintain it? We kept our bow rider in the garage and looks like new.

I want a changing room and not all boats have one. We thought of adding one by purchasing a kit or making one ourselves. Have any of you done this?

I put vinyl flooring on my boat two winters ago. The products from different manufacturers differ in thickness, texture, and color. I think you would have a hard time matching it up for a repair. But this stuff is tough. It would take a real screw up to cut it.

It is really easy to maintain. When mine gets grungy, I spray Zep mildew remover on it and scrub it with a stiff, short bristle scrub brush attached to a broom handle. Hose it off and it looks like new.

I'm thinking of taking the changing room off our toon. Maybe you can find someone close doing the same.

Any rate, looks like there is a good selection of colors out there. Maybe you can find one to match you boat better.

We don't ever use our changing room, either. Porta-potties are just something to have to wash out.

If anyone needs to use the bathroom, I say jump in. If that won't work, I'll just run'em by our lake house and drop'em off.

The idea of finding a great fishing spot and having to pull up anchor to find a restroom doesn't sound appealing. Eww! Doing it in the lake. I can't do it.

You can buy a changing room online for about 100.00 if my memory is correct. It attaches to your Bimini top crosspieces and removes easily.z

That's what I thought but it seemed like there was some apples and oranges discussion there.

By the way there are change curtains that you can buy on Ebay that will attach to your existing bimini frame with Velcro straps and let down for privacy and fold up and stow when not needed. The bimini would have to be up but ours is when its sunny and hot. We use one and it doesn't take up floor space when it isn't needed.

There is a lot of vinyl out there and often you can find colors that match pretty well. Depending on what its on, you can trim a piece off where it is stapled under the seat and send it to a supplier to give you a hand at matching.

To make vinyl last, keep it out of the sun which means using a mooring cover when the boat s not being used or keep it inside.

Anyone got a link to the privacy curtain that velcroes to the bimini top?

I fully agree on the need for a Porta-potti - Wife would back you up even more so.
It's true not often needed, but when it is - it can truly ruin someone's day if you don't have one.
Here a post I once made:
One of the most important consideration is the toilet - No Kidding.
Anyway I finally purchased a Coleman because the seat was the closest thing to a normal size toilet and still make it fit inside of the changing room.
I also made a 2 1/2 inch pedestal to set it on for extra height. normal toilet .
I had modify the changing room floor by cutting out a lot of the plastic bottom to get it to fit and I was able to store the pedestal along side of it.
I screwed down two pressure treated boards to keep it in place and ensure the changing curtain unit was not obstructed when closing.
I had purchased one when I ordered the my pontoon but when I saw it, well it was obvious that only a very small person or child could use it.
So It's still in the box never used and I will sell on eBay when I have some time.
I ended up purchasing a Coleman because again size & comfort was very close to a normal home toilet
It's one of the cheapest you can buy, but it could have been the most expensive and I would have purchase it.
It's very useable, I can't say how long it will last, but even if I had to buy a new one every year, I would.
Might sound funny but before you completely unwrap whatever you buy sit on it likely you will send back.
If you have room the best one out there as far as I'm concern is the Thetford 92360 Porta Potti 550E Curve Portable Toilet .
Very good size and likely higher than your home toilet. It was too high however for my changing room so had to send back.
So for actual usability I recommend the Coleman .
